How to Add Music and Upload Podcasts to Spotify

Spotify is one of the world's leading digital music streaming platforms, offering millions of tracks and podcasts for users to enjoy. Whether you are an artist who wants to add music files to Spotify or a content creator looking to upload a podcast, this guide will provide you with all the information you need.

Adding Music from Files to Spotify

If you have your music files that you want to upload to Spotify, follow these steps:

Step 1: Prepare Your Music Files

Ensure your music files are in a supported format such as MP3, M4P (except videos), or MP4 (if QuickTime is installed on your computer). Organize your music files in folders to make them easier to manage.

Step 2: Install Spotify Desktop App

Spotify allows local file uploads through its desktop app. Download and install the Spotify desktop app from the official website.

Step 3: Enable Local Files

In the Spotify desktop app, go to Settings by clicking on your profile at the top right corner. Scroll down to Local Files and toggle the switch to enable local files. Make sure you allow Spotify to access your computer’s local files.

Step 4: Add a Source

Under Local Files, click on Add a Source to select the folder where your music files are stored. Once you add the folder, all compatible music files in that folder will appear in your Spotify library under Local Files.

Step 5: Create a Playlist

To organize your music, create a playlist. Right-click on the Local Files section, click Create Playlist, and drag the desired tracks into the new playlist.

Step 6: Sync with Mobile App

You can listen to your local files on the mobile app if both your desktop and mobile devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Just log into the same Spotify account on both devices, navigate to the playlist containing local files on your mobile device, and download the playlist.

Uploading Podcasts to Spotify

Spotify is a great platform for distributing your podcast to a wide audience. Here’s how to upload your podcast:

Step 1: Create Your Podcast

Make sure your podcast is ready for upload. This includes recording, editing, and exporting your podcast episodes in a format supported by Spotify (like MP3).

Step 2: Choose a Podcast Hosting Service

Spotify doesn’t host podcast files directly on its platform. Instead, you need a podcast hosting service. Platforms like Podbean, Anchor, and Buzzsprout (now part of Spotify) can help you host your podcast and generate an RSS feed.

Step 3: Submit Your Podcast to Spotify

Follow these steps to submit your podcast:

  • Sign up with a podcast hosting service and upload your podcast episodes.
  • Get your RSS feed URL from your podcast host. Typically, you will find it in your dashboard.
  • Go to the Spotify for Podcasters website and log in with your Spotify account. If you don’t have one, you'll need to create one.
  • Click on Get Started. Follow the instructions to submit your RSS feed URL.
  • Verify your podcast via email and submit it for review. After Spotify reviews and approves your podcast, it will be available on their platform.

Step 4: Promote Your Podcast

Once your podcast is on Spotify, promote it to grow your audience. Share your podcast on social media, create a website, and entertain collaborations with guests or influencers for better reach.

With Spotify, you can reach a global audience and build a loyal listener base. Whether it's adding music from files or uploading a podcast, Spotify offers tools to help you share your content with the world.
